1366 Technologies is implementing a series of important manufacturing innovations to reduce the cost of silicon solar cell production. To date we have developed four major inventions that are in different stages of production.
All of these inventions are improvements to the manufacturing processes for multi crystalline silicon.
Together they represent a disruptive Intellectual Property portfolio that will make electricity from silicon solar competitive with coal generated power.
The new manufacturing processes that we have developed are in different stages of development.
The grooved ribbon innovation improves the efficiency of module manufacturing by two percent. It is fully developed and currently in production.
Our Self Aligned Cell architecture is an improvement in the manufacturing of multi-crystalline silicon solar cells.
On October 16, 2008 we opened up our pilot plant where we are producing cells with our new architecture on industrial size six by six inch wafers.
The Self Aligned Cell architecture produces cells that have a higher energy output while keeping the manufacturing cost per wafer constant.
Our third and fourth manufacturing innovations are still in the development stage.
